New Age Limit for First-Class Admission Announced, Guidelines for Government and Private Schools Issued

The Haryana Directorate of Education has made an important decision regarding the age limit for admission to the first class. According to the new guidelines, children must be at least 6 years old to be eligible for admission to the first class. Previously, the age limit was 5 and a half years, but this has been revised in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to improve educational standards.

Reasons Behind the Increase in Age Limit

The Directorate of Education believes that it is important for children to be mentally prepared for educational activities. At the age of 6, children are more mature and have better learning capabilities, which helps them understand the fundamentals of schooling more easily.

Special Guidelines for the 2025-26 Academic Session

For the upcoming 2025-26 academic session, it has been directed that only children who will turn 6 years old by April 1, 2025, will be allowed admission to the first class. However, children who are slightly younger than this age on the specified date will be given a 6-month concession under the Right to Education Act 2009.

The Directorate of Education has also clarified that children who are already enrolled in school and whose admission may be delayed due to the new age limit will still be allowed to continue their studies in the first class. This ensures that there will be no disruption in their academic year, and they can continue their education without any interruption.
