Women Take Charge of Security on International Women’s Day 2025

On March 8, 2025, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Gujarat’s Navsari district is set to witness a historic moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Lakhpati Didi Conference in Vansi Borsi village, where he will interact with and honor the “Lakhpati Didis” by presenting them with certificates. What makes this event truly special is that the entire security responsibility for the Prime Minister will be handled exclusively by women police personnel—a first in India.

Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, shared details about this groundbreaking initiative. He emphasized that from the helipad to the event venue, only female police officers will be on duty. Over 2,100 women constables, 187 sub-inspectors, 61 inspectors, 16 DSPs, 5 SPs, one IG, and an Additional DGP-rank woman officer have been entrusted with this task. Senior IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane will oversee the security arrangements, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Sanghvi proudly noted that this move highlights the significant role women play in making Gujarat a safe state. “On Women’s Day, this step will show the world how half the population contributes to our state’s security,” he said. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Gujarat within a week. Just days ago, on World Wildlife Day, he visited the state to explore Anant Ambani’s Vantara project and the Gir Lion Safari, with photos and videos from the trip going viral online.

Empowering Women: Lakhpati Didi Conference and New Schemes

During the event in Vansi Borsi, PM Modi will not only celebrate the achievements of the Lakhpati Didis—women who have become financially independent—but also launch two key Gujarat government initiatives: Jee Safal and Jee Maitri. The Jee Maitri scheme aims to support startups working toward rural self-employment by providing financial assistance. Meanwhile, Jee Safal will offer training and financial aid through self-help groups to women from Gujarat’s poorest (Antyodaya) families, empowering them to build better lives.

A Day of Inspiration

On the eve of Women’s Day, PM Modi took to social media to share his plans. “Tomorrow is Women’s Day, and I’ll be attending an event in Navsari. On this occasion, I’ve decided to hand over my social media accounts to some inspiring sisters and daughters,” he announced. Reflecting on his commitment to the poor, he added, “As a son of a poor mother, I promised to guarantee a better life for the underprivileged. Through the Mudra Yojana, we’ve provided 32 lakh crore rupees to the poor without any collateral. Those who criticize us, despite having zero seats, can’t even comprehend how many zeros are in 32 lakh crore!”

This Women’s Day celebration in Gujarat is not just about honoring women’s achievements but also showcasing their strength—from ensuring the Prime Minister’s safety to driving economic empowerment in rural India. It’s a powerful reminder of what women can achieve when given the opportunity to lead.
