Uproar in Delhi Over Waqf Bill, AIMPLB Begins Protest at Jantar Mantar
New Delhi, March 16, 2025: The national capital, Delhi, is once again witnessing a massive uproar over the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. On Sunday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) launched a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar against the bill. Thousands of people have gathered at the site, including members of the Muslim community and representatives from various political parties.

The AIMPLB has labeled the Waqf Bill a “black law” and demanded its immediate withdrawal. The board alleges that the legislation is a conspiracy to destroy Waqf properties and infringe upon the rights of the Muslim community. Protesters raised slogans against the central government, calling the bill unconstitutional.

The demonstration saw participation from leaders and workers of political parties such as Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), and AIMIM. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also joined the protest at Jantar Mantar, lending his support. He stated, “This bill is not only against the Muslim community but also strikes at the core spirit of the Constitution. We will not accept it at any cost.”

Heavy police forces have been deployed at the site to maintain law and order during the protest. AIMPLB spokesperson Dr. Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas said, “Our protest is peaceful, and we aim to make the government aware of our concerns. This bill is an attempt to seize Waqf properties, which we will not tolerate.”

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the protest, asserting that the bill aims to bring transparency and accountability to the functioning of Waqf boards. The controversy continues to escalate as both sides stand firm on their positions.
