Shaina Manimuthu Wins Gold
October 28, 2025 – Fifteen-year-old Shaina Manimuthu has made India proud by clinching the gold medal in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles category at the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships 2025 in Chengdu, China. The talented shuttler, daughter of Head Constable/General Duty (HC/GD) Manimuthu Perumal from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Center in Bengaluru, delivered a commanding performance to defeat Japan’s Chiharu Tomita in the final. Her victory not only secured personal glory but also contributed to India’s best-ever medal tally at the prestigious continental event.
Shaina’s journey to the top is a story of discipline, dedication, and family pride. A student at Army Public School, Pune, and the Recruit Training Center (PRTC) in Bengaluru, she balances academics with intense badminton training. Her father, a CRPF jawan, has been her constant motivator. “Shaina’s success reflects the values we live by—commitment, courage, and country first,” said HC/GD Manimuthu Perumal, beaming with pride after the win.
Final Showdown: Shaina Outclasses Japan’s Chiharu Tomita
The gold medal match on October 26 at Chengdu University of TCM Wenjiang Campus Gymnasium was a gripping contest. Shaina dominated the first game with sharp smashes and precise net play, racing to a 21-14 lead. Tomita fought back fiercely in the second, pushing the Indian to the brink. But Shaina stayed composed, clinching the game 22-20 in a 44-minute thriller. Her powerful forehand winners and quick footwork left the crowd in awe.
This triumph makes Shaina the fourth Indian girl to win the U15 Girls’ Singles title at the Asian Championships, following Samiya Imad Farooqui (2017), Tasnim Mir (2019), and Tanvi Patri (2024). “Holding this gold feels unreal. I played for my family, my school, and every young girl dreaming of badminton glory,” Shaina said, her voice filled with emotion.
India’s Historic Double Gold Triumph
Shaina’s gold was part of a sensational double victory for Indian women on the final day. Sixteen-year-old Diksha Sudhakar created history by becoming the first Indian to win the U17 Girls’ Singles title, defeating compatriot Lakshya Rajesh 21-16, 21-9 in an all-Indian final. Diksha’s aggressive baseline play and clever drop shots overwhelmed her opponent in under 30 minutes.
India’s overall haul at the championships was its strongest yet: two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. The bronzes were won by Jagsher Singh Khanggura in U17 Boys’ Singles and the U17 mixed doubles pair of Jangjeet Singh Kajla and Jananika Ramesh. This performance surpassed India’s previous best, with the last double-gold achievement recorded in 2013.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) celebrated the feat as a milestone. “These young athletes are the future of Indian badminton. Their success highlights the impact of grassroots training and state-level support,” a BAI official stated.
CRPF Salutes Its Champion Daughter
CRPF Director General Shri Gyanendra Pratap Singh, IPS, personally congratulated Shaina. “Miss Shaina Manimuthu has made the nation and the force proud. As the daughter of HC/GD Manimuthu Perumal, her achievement showcases how passion and perseverance can lead to greatness. We wish her a bright future,” DG Singh said in an official statement.
A Rising Star with Big Dreams
Training under experienced coaches in Bengaluru, Shaina follows a strict regimen of early-morning drills, fitness sessions, and video analysis of top players like PV Sindhu. “Badminton is my way of honoring my father’s service and making India proud,” she shared.
With her eyes set on the World Junior Championships, Shaina is poised to follow in the footsteps of Indian badminton icons. Her story inspires countless young athletes, especially from service families, proving that talent and hard work can break barriers.
India’s badminton revolution continues to gain momentum, with emerging stars like Shaina Manimuthu leading the charge. Her gold medal is more than a personal victory—it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and national pride.
