Nupur Sheoran Silences Critics with Gold at World Boxing Cup Final
GREATER NOIDA — In a defiant display of grit and skill, Indian heavyweight boxer Nupur Sheoran silenced her detractors by clinching the gold medal in the +80kg category at the World Boxing Cup Final 2025 on Thursday.
Competing at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Sheoran defeated Uzbekistan’s Sotimboeva Oltinoy in a nail-biting final, fulfilling a promise she made just two months ago that had sparked a wave of online trolling.
From “Silver Now” to “Gold Here”
The victory was particularly sweet for Sheoran, who had faced a barrage of criticism following her silver medal finish at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool in September 2025. After that loss, Sheoran had confidently stated, “Silver now, gold later,” a declaration that was met with scepticism and mockery by social media trolls who questioned her ability to deliver on the big stage.
On Thursday, she let her gloves do the talking. By upgrading her Liverpool silver to a World Boxing Cup gold, Sheoran not only redeemed her pledge but also cemented her status as India’s premier heavyweight contender.
Nupur Sheoran :The Final A Gritty Rematch
The gold medal bout was far from a walkover. It was a high-stakes rematch of the World Championships quarter-final, where Sheoran had previously beaten Oltinoy 4-1. This time, the Uzbek boxer came prepared, turning the final into a tactical war.
The first two rounds were tightly contested, with both boxers trading heavy blows and grappling for dominance. While fellow Indian finalists like Minakshi Hooda and Preeti Pawar cruised to unanimous 5-0 victories, Sheoran was pushed to the limit. She had to dig deep in the final round, showcasing superior stamina and precision to sway the judges.
The result was a 3-2 split decision in Sheoran’s favour—a testament to her composure under pressure.
India’s Golden Day
Sheoran’s victory was the cherry on top of a historic campaign for the Indian contingent, particularly the women’s squad, who swept 7 gold medals on the final day.

Minakshi Hooda (48kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) all won their finals with dominant 5-0 verdicts.

Significance
For Nupur Sheoran, the granddaughter of legendary boxer Hawa Singh, this win is a critical step toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. By dominating the +80kg category on home soil and overcoming the mental hurdle of public criticism, she has proved that she possesses the mental fortitude required of a world champion.
