Donald Trump Vows to ‘Permanently Pause’ Migration from ‘Third World Countries’ After White House Shooting

Donald Trump — Following a fatal shooting incident near the White House on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping and unprecedented escalation of his administration’s anti-migration policies, vowing to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries.”

The announcement, made via a lengthy social media post late on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day), came hours after one of the two National Guard soldiers shot near the White House succumbed to her injuries. The alleged attacker has been identified as an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in 2021 and was reportedly granted asylum earlier this year.

Donald Trump :The Core Policy Shift

President Trump framed the move as essential for the U.S. system to “fully recover” and stabilize. He declared a multi-pronged crackdown on all forms of migration, including legal permanent residency and benefits for non-citizens:

  • Permanent Migration Pause: The central pledge is to permanently pause all migration from nations he broadly termed “Third World Countries.” The term generally refers to low- and middle-income developing nations across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

  • Mass Deportation & Termination of Admissions: He vowed to “terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions” and remove “anyone who is not a net asset to the United States” or is deemed “non-compatible with Western Civilisation.” He added that only “REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation.”

  • End to Federal Benefits: The President announced an immediate end to “all federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens.”

  • Denaturalization Threat: He also threatened to “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility,” targeting those already granted U.S. citizenship.

Immediate Crackdown & ‘Countries of Concern’

While the “permanent pause” lacks immediate legislative detail, the administration has already begun taking concrete, targeted steps:

  • Asylum Freeze: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director announced an immediate halt to all asylum decisions, stating that the pause will remain in place until “every alien is vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible.”

  • Afghan Visa and Processing Freeze: The State Department immediately paused the issuance of visas for all individuals traveling on Afghan passports. Separately, the processing of all immigration applications from Afghanistan has been indefinitely suspended.

  • Green Card Re-examination: The USCIS has ordered a “full-scale, rigorous re-examination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern.”

Full List of 19 ‘Countries of Concern’

The administration has indicated that the current list of ‘countries of concern’ for the green card review is the same as the one subject to a June travel proclamation. The 19 nations currently facing heightened scrutiny and a re-examination of permanent residency status are:

Africa Middle East/Asia Caribbean/Latin America
Burundi Afghanistan Cuba
Chad Myanmar (Burma) Haiti
Republic of the Congo Iran Venezuela
Equatorial Guinea Laos
Eritrea Yemen
Libya
Sierra Leone
Somalia
Sudan
Togo
Turkmenistan

The actions mark the most significant and sweeping immigration restrictions announced in modern American history, going far beyond the administration’s initial travel ban in its first term. Critics argue that the crackdown targets entire communities based on the actions of a single individual.
